Reverse HIVE Meeting 10-21-26
Reverse HIVE Recap: Oct 21, 2026
1. Key takeaways
Reverse second is the hot product. Banks and credit unions are telling 80-year-olds to “get a job.” Lauren’s case funded today. The client replaced a $250K interest-only HELOC and an Amex balance, freeing about $2,600/month plus about $200K cash. FAR is the only lender with the product. Add 2-3 weeks for condos.
Julie’s 10-year comparison: a reverse second beat a traditional reverse by about $150K, and the client keeps a growing line of credit. The video is on Loom.
ADU play (Brian): a realtor funds a $250K ADU with a reverse second and expects $2,000-$2,200/month in rent.
Fiduciaries are an underused referral source. Once they see it work, they become advocates (John’s example).
Capital gains: Chris saw a 43-year basis case with an estimated $50-60K tax bill. Divorce does not reset basis. Flag it and refer clients to a tax pro.
Debt Done Date + reverse is unresolved. Lauren’s concern is that it may fuel rate obsession in some clients. John sees it as a possible separate line of business. He also sees a follow-up use: “when will I run out of money” conversations with reverse clients.
2. Your action items (John)
Email the CLA case study skill/materials to participants. Jeff and Lauren can’t click or download links on their company systems. Add it to the meeting notes too. DONE
Locate the case studies in Todd’s updated portal. Send Len a short video showing where they live.
Ask Julie for the reverse-second Loom video and her analysis. Package it as a case study through the CLA skill, then post it. WORKING
Share the Google Sheet for in-force modeling. Chris built it and offered it to Dan, so confirm the hand-off.
Chris is checking for the Lendsight calculator with the capital gains piece. Follow up if you don’t hear back.
Send Ken the existing forward and reverse case studies for his follow-up campaign.
Add a short Lendsight guide to the notes: the quick HECM refinance calculator, the purchase calculator, and the full illustrator. Chris asked for a walkthrough of the three.

4. Open questions
Data security with AI tools. Dave raised the risk of meeting recordings and client financials in note-takers and AI. This is worth a short guidance sheet for the group. It could cover turning off training-data sharing, keeping client names and numbers out of prompts, and checking each member’s compliance rules. Jeff works at a locked-down lender, so that is the likely test case.
Debt Done Date vs. reverse: which client types fit? Which advisors?
5. Next steps and dates
Next call: Wed, Nov 4. You’ll dial in from the road.
NORLA national conference: San Antonio, about 3 weeks out.
Todd’s book project: physical versions on Amazon (reverse, Debt Done Date, likely Borrow Smart). Branding options are still unknown.
